2024 Healthcare Provider Wellness Retreat on Orcas Island: Finding The Good Life Through Personal and Professional Fulfillment

January 25 - 28, 2024

Rosario Resort and Spa, Orcas, Island, WA

Join Dr. Rachel Bishop, Family Physician and Physician Peer Coach, and Annie Barrett, National Board-Certified Wellness Coach and Mindfulness/Yoga Instructor, for an unforgettable wellness weekend retreat for healthcare providers at the beautiful Rosario Resort and Spa on Orcas Island, Washington.

Dr. Rachel Bishop and Annie Barrett offer retreats to support the physical, mental, emotional, and social wellbeing of healthcare providers. The focus of this retreat is to offer participants the opportunity to relax and engage in a variety of wellness activities and to explore what constitutes personal and professional fulfillment and joy in daily life and in the field of medicine.

From Burnout Back to Balance: Finding Joy

We believe individuals in the healthcare profession should feel energized by their work, and motivated by the mission of improving the health in their communities. However, though the crisis of the COVID epidemic is behind us, burnout among healthcare providers continues to be on the rise. One of the reasons for high burnout in the healthcare profession is that over time, the high stress and demands of the job eat away at one’s experience of personal and professional fulfillment.

In this retreat, through group coaching and small group exercises, space and time is made for participants to take an overview of the many dimensions of their lives and to examine their strengths, talents and values. Participants are guided to explore and define what for them constitutes satisfaction and joy, personally and professionally. The goal is to leave with a plan for next steps to move toward greater personal and professional fulfillment.

Throughout this retreat, participants enjoy a variety of wellbeing practices including mindfulness, self-compassion strategies, and gentle yoga designed to promote wellbeing and relaxation. We offer ways for participants to explore how to integrate these practices into their own lives and to promote a culture of wellness in their workplaces.

This retreat is designed for Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants and is limited to no more than 14 participants.

Learning Objectives

After this education, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify their own strengths, talents and values and give voice to what for them constitutes satisfaction and fulfillment in their profession.
  2. Develop a plan to address individual barriers to professional fulfillment.
  3. Recognize the value of leading a culture of wellness within their own units.
  4. Employ a variety of mindful self-compassion techniques and practices for personal and occupational wellbeing.
